Sprinkler system saves fire from spreading at Abbotsford feed mill

A fire at an animal-feed mill in Abbotsford Friday morning was quickly extinguished before any major damage resulted.

The blaze took place at about 7 a.m. at Ritchie Smith Feeds, located at 33777 Enterprise Ave.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service arrived to find an active fire in one of the units used in the feed-making process.

Deputy Fire Chief Ron Hull said the on-site sprinkler system can be credited with containing the fire to the unit where it originated. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading.

Hull said the fire is not considered suspicious and is believed to have been caused by a mechanical issue.
