UPDATE: Motorcyclist who crashed on freeway in Abbotsford dies in hospital
A 44-year-old Chilliwack man who crashed his motorcycle on Highway 1 in Abbotsford on Friday afternoon has died in hospital.
RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen said the man was travelling with a group of motorcyclists westbound on the freeway at McCallum Road, and lost control of his bike when he was unable to stop for traffic that had slowed. The rider slid down the road but did not collide with any other traffic.
He suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.
Thiessen said the man was wearing a "novelty" helmet that did not meet Canadian safety standards.
