Blaze destroys mobile home in Abbotsford
Four occupants of an Abbotsford mobile home lost most of their belongings after a fire destroyed the residence on Monday night.
The blaze occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at the Aloha Trailer Park and Campsite at 29666 Fraser Highway. Deputy Fire Chief Dale Unrau said the home was occupied by the owner and three tenants, none of whom had insurance.
Unrau said the fire began in a laundry room and was noticed by one of the residents, who tried to put it out by throwing a towel over the flames and stomping on them.
He suffered minor smoke inhalation and minor burns to his legs and was treated in hospital. One other occupant was also treated for smoke inhalation.
Unrau said Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) crews arrived to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames, but they were able to prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.
Investigators are still determining the exact cause, but it is suspected to be an electrical issue.
Damage caused by fire, smoke and water is estimated at $75,000.
AFRS' emergency social services attended the scene and provided immediate assistance to the occupants.
