The clothes on his back and his beloved dog were some of the only things to escape from the devastating fire that destroyed Denis Mailloux's Abbotsford home on May 13.
His daughter, Jessica Cassell, is now in scramble mode, trying to help her father get back on his feet in the aftermath of this disaster.
Cassell explained that even her father's livelihood was impacted by the fire, with his work vehicle and tools being lost to the flames, preventing him from doing his job as a drywaller, which he's worked as for the past 25 years.
Currently, Mailloux is staying in a hotel, but his daughter is desperately trying to find him a new place to live and is asking for the public's help in making this happen.
"He's been the main provider for all his children all of our lives, and now it's time he gets help returned," Cassell said.
She said that her father not only raised her and her three siblings as a single father, but also took care of countless other friends and family members in whatever ways he could.
Cassell has started a GoFundMe campaign for her father in the hopes that people will contribute whatever they can to help her father repair his life.
"The money would be going towards getting him rent for a new place, replacing his work tools, new furniture, clothing, food, and all the necessities needed to start over," Cassell said.
While the full extent of the damage to the Chadsey Crescent property has yet to be revealed, Cassell said that it's highly unlikely that much survived the fire, and her father will probably have to start from scratch.
The online fundraiser has a goal of $20,000 and can be found at gofund.me/aeb05dd1.
