A youngster swings away at last year’s Hole-In-One fundraiser event. This year’s fundraiser is the Big Truck Golf Event, which occurs on Saturday.

The ice storm back in February may have cancelled the Rotary Club of Abbotsford’s annual spring Hole-In-One event, but the re-opening of Fraserglen Golf Course’s driving range has led to a brand new celebration this Saturday.

The Big Truck Golf Event challenge runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, with proceeds going to the Abbotsford Food Bank’s Starfish Pack Program that fills backpacks full of food for local children going hungry.

The event is held in lieu of the aforementioned annual spring Hole-In-One event which unfortunately had to be cancelled this past spring due to damage caused to the driving range at Fraserglen Golf Course during the big ice storm.

The driving range is now re-opened and the new challenge is to see who can swing away and land the most golf balls in a truck on the range. Prizes will be donated by Berryhill Foods for the top participants.

“We are very excited to again partner with the Rotary Club of Abbotsford on their initiative with the Abbotsford Food Bank to raise funds for a program such as the Starfish Pack that helps reduce hunger in our community,” stated Fraserglen general Manager Corrine Allan.

Rotary club president Stacy Irwin echoed Allan’s thoughts.

“We at Rotary are happy to support this grand re-opening event with Fraserglen,” she said. “They have been an amazing partner to us over the years by supporting our Million Dollar Hole in One Event. The best part is proceeds will be going to the Starfish Pack Program, a program that is near and dear to the Rotary Club of Abbotsford’s heart. Please come out and join us. Bring friends and family too.”
