An oboist from Abbotsford has been selected to perform with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYO Canada) on its 2025 cross-country summer tour.
Addison Trustham, 20, joins 90 of the nation’s top young classical musicians.
“It is my dream to play professionally with a symphony orchestra,” Trustham said. “This opportunity will help me advance my musical skills and grow as an artist.”
Addison has performed with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, UBC Symphony and the Fraser Valley Symphony. He said he is especially excited for the program’s chamber music focus and the national tour experience.
The orchestra’s leadership also reflects B.C.’s musical excellence; music director Naomi Woo is from Vancouver and NYO Canada CEO Christie Gray hails from Creston, highlighting the province’s impact on Canada’s classical music scene.
The tour runs July 18 to Aug. 3 with stops in Kingston, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria.
Since 1960, the NYO Canada has recruited the country’s most promising musicians aged 16 to 28 and prepared them for careers as professional orchestral
musicians – through a full honorarium, and a tuition-free program.
Each summer, participants train under the mentorship of world-class faculty in the Orchestral Training Institute, NYO Canada chamber music concert series, recording sessions, and a concert tour.
