Abbotsford author Nikki Bergstresser has released a new children’s book.

Abbotsford children’s book author Nikki Bergstresser has released a new book.

Lila Lou’s Little Library: A Gift from the Heart is about a girl who uses her creativity and activism to save her books and inspire a community.

Bergstresser said studies show that kids who take up activism learn real-life social skills like teamwork, planning, strategy and communication.

It allows children to be listened to, and seen as collaborators, in problem-solving, she said.

Empowering characters, like Lila Lou, teach young children that they have the power to make change and inspire others, Bergstresser added.

She said Lila Lou’s Little Library carries key concepts of sharing, creativity and community supported by the many advocates of positive parenting solutions.

“My hope is that Lila Lou’s Little Library will inspire readers to make a difference, both in our communities and globally,” she said. “Seeking out ways to make a difference through our words and actions is a positive trait for children to embrace. We all have something to offer to make the world a little brighter.”

Lila Lou’s Little Library comes with a free readers’ guide for children that includes lesson plans, activities and discussion questions to allow parents, teachers and caregivers to deepen comprehension.

The book is illustrated by Sejung Kim, an artist and author who lives and works in France.

Bergstresser is the author of Seasons for Stones, a picture book about the power of kindness.

Lila Lou’s Little Library: A Gift from the Heart (Cardinal Rule Press) can be ordered on Amazon.
