Theatre camps available to Abbotsford youth
Abbotsford’s Gallery 7 Theatre is offering children and teens the opportunity to investigate all things dramatic at the eighth annual Summer Drama Blast program in July.
“It’s a great opportunity for young people to explore their creative sides in a life-affirming environment while exploring important life-skills such as team-work, cooperation, self-confidence and a healthy self-image,” said Gallery 7’s artistic director, Ken Hildebrandt.
For children aged six to 12, the program offers generalized performance camps that allow them to stretch their artistic abilities and to learn about basic and intermediate theatre skills such as blocking, line memorization and characterization.
Each camp ends with a short performance where campers can showcase what they’ve learned.
Young people aged 14 to 18 who are looking to enhance their high-school theatre experience, or are preparing for college and professional theatre training will benefit from specialized theatre camps such as Performance Intensive with actor Erla Faye Forsythe and others, or Acting for the Camera with Megan Mackenzie, or Musical Theatre, led by Chilliwack musician, Nicola Davies, and Vancouver choreographer, Andrea Loewen.
These camps offer youth the opportunity to view performance at a more advanced level. The camps run July 9-27 at the MEI Schools Campus, 4081 Clearbrook Rd.
