An Abbotsford high-school student has been recognized for understanding the rules of the road.

This week, ICBC announced the winners of its poster contest Your Ad Here.

It saw students across B.C. in Grades 8 to 11 create ads on one of three topics: impaired driving, speeding or distracted driving.

After weeks of voting, Nina Pham from W.J. Mouat Secondary won the fan favourite award and an iPod Touch for her impaired driving ad.

“I learned that the penalties for drinking and driving are high in British Columbia,” said Pham.

“My message shows my peers what can happen when they drink and drive. Using facial expressions can help create a comical atmosphere which will catch their attention.”

An honourable mention prize was awarded to Alexandra Hawse from Abbotsford Middle School.

More than 150 teenagers entered the contest which was aimed at raising awareness about the power of choice.
