Taste of Abby kicks off

Second annual event showcases local food

The second annual Taste of Abby week kicked off Sunday afternoon with a cooking competition.

Local chefs squared off in the heat of the Save-on-Foods parking lot on South Fraser Way.

Four chefs – Chef Nick Vacchiano of Lepp Farm Market; Chef Dion Brisson of Harvest Grill ‘n Greens; Chef Matthew Nichols of Restaurant 62; and Chef Jesse Thompson of Bow and Stern – each teamed up with high school students as sous chefs, competing for the title of Taste of Abby Top Chef 2017.

In the end, it was Vacchiano who came out on top, for the second year in a row.

Celebrity chef and restaurateur Vikram Vij emceed the event.
