The community is invited to attend Taste Around the World, a culturally diverse food-sharing event in Abbotsford on Saturday, Aug. 24.
The free event is hosted by the Archway Community Services’ Valley Food Connection in collaboration with United Way British Columbia, Tourism Abbotsford and the City of Abbotsford.
It takes place from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Jubilee Park.
The annual gathering aims to celebrate the cultural diversity within Abbotsford and connect newcomers as they share their cultural recipes and stories with attendees.
Last year’s inaugural event saw more than 100 people come together to enjoy a variety of foods from different cultures.
Once again, volunteer cooks will lead small groups in cooking their favourite family recipes and share information about their respective homelands and cultures.
The event will have up to 400 attendees and each guest will get a chance to taste a sample of foods from around the world. In addition, food trucks will be available with food for purchase.
Vicki Lin, supervisor of Archway Valley Food Connection, said volunteers are needed ot help with tasks such as setup and takedown, as well as distributing food.
"This is a great opportunity for individuals to nurture meaningful connections within our community,” she said.
"Through this event, our goal is to encourage local cultural awareness and appreciation, provide a platform for cultural exchange, and showcase cultural culinary diversity within our community."
The event is limited to 400 people. Tickets can be reserved at TasteAroundTheWorld.eventbrite.ca
