More than $80,000 was raised for the Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF) during its recent sixth annual Smart and Caring Golf Classic.

The event, held Sept. 16 at Chilliwack Golf Club, was held in support of Abbotsford charities and the ACF’s Smart and Caring Community Fund.

Interest income from the fund provides grants annually to a broad spectrum of local charities that support children and families at risk in our community.

“We are proud to have raised over $400,000 in the last six years with our Smart and Caring Golf Classic,” said Andrea Senft, board chair.

“The tremendous success of this year’s event highlights the generosity and kindness of our community. We could not have achieved such outstanding results without the hard work and dedication of our fund development committee, led by chair Bryan Born, and the hard-working ACF staff.”

Executive director Wendy Neufeld said this year’s event was “an excellent representation of what can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal.”

The Smart and Caring Golf Classic is held each year on the third Thursday of September, raising funds that are permanently added to the capital of the Smart and Caring Community Fund. Next year’s event is on Sept. 15.

Since inception, the ACF has have invested more than $13 million into the community through grants and scholarships.
