Here is a list of some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the next week.

RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER

A Ride to Conquer Fundraising Dinner takes place Saturday, May 3 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at Peardonville Hall, 29450 Huntingdon Rd.  The event is in support of the BC Cancer Foundation and includes dinner, a silent auction, a 50/50 draw, and more. FISH AND CHIPS

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (2513 West Railway) holds a fish and chip night on Friday, May 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. A shuttle is available to and from the Legion courtesy of MSA Ford. It can be arranged by calling 604-746-9151.

PLANT SALE

Abbotsford Garden Club holds a plant sale on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  (or until all plants are sold) at The Reach Gallery Museum, 32388 Veterans Way. Good quality plants grown by club members.

BAKING AND MORE

Aldergrove United Church (#101 27336 Fraser Hwy.) holds a spring plant, craft and bake sale on Saturday,  May 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments available. Info: Sandy at 604-856-8872

FOR GREEN THUMBS

A Green Thumb Plant Sale runs May 3 , 4, 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 32965 Fourth Ave. in Mission. Proceeds got to the Fraser Valley Humane Society, SAINTS Rescue and Elizabeth’s Wildlife Center. Hanging baskets can be pre-ordered, for $25 each, by calling 604-826-3290 or emailing junmo@shaw.ca

AUTHOR VISITS  STORE

Hemingway’s Book Store (33765 Essendene Ave.) hosts author Paul Founder on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m. Born is the co-founder of the Tamarack Institute and author of “Deepening Community: Finding Joy Together in Chaotic Times.” Reserve a signed copy of the book by calling 604-855-1894.

PLENTY FOR SALE

A garage, plant and bake sale is held Saturday, May 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 2029 Ware St. This is the church’s annual sale of bedding plants, baking, books, toys, sporting goods, furniture and more.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT

The Abbotsford Parkinson’s Support Group meets Monday, May 5 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Matsqui Recreation Centre, 3106 Clearbrook Rd. for support, information, resources and coping strategies. Info: Carolyn at 604-853-3772 or Gary at 604-308-8691.

DIABETES MEETING

AUTHOR VISITS LIBRARY

Abbotsford author Trudy Beyak visits Abbotsford Community Library (33555 Bevan Ave.) on Wednesday, May from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Beyak is the author of “The Mother Heart of God: Unveiling the Mystery of the Father’s Maternal Love.”  The book includes interviews with 50 leaders of faith, including Ruth Graham, the Vatican and Dr. Raymond Damadian, inventor of the MRI. RETIREES MEET

The Central Fraser Valley branch of the Federal Retirees meets Thursday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly, 3145 Gladwin Rd. ELVIS IN THE BUILDING

Randy Elvis Friskie and Cassandra Friskie are the featured performers at an event to raise funds for six Abbotsford high school football players who have made the B.C. team for the ABC Border Bowl in Lacombe, Alta. The  fundraiser takes place Friday, May 9 at the Abbotsford Eagles Hall, 33868 Essendene Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. , and dinner is served at 7 p.m., with the show to follow. HORSE RESCUE

Circle F Horse Rescue holds a pub night fundraiser on Friday, May 9, starting at 6:30 p.m., at the Highwayman Neighbourhood Pub, 32470 Simon Ave. The cost for a burger with fries and a beer (or pop) is $15.
