Here is a list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the next week.


Imani Orphan Care Foundation hosts a multi-family garage sale on Saturday, May 17 to raise funds for orphaned kids in Kenya. The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 33342 Rainbow Ave. in Abbotsford. Among the items for sale are salon equipment, appliances, toys, game, furniture and more. The MSA Museum Society hosts International Museums Day on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trethewey House Heritage Site (2313 Ware St.). Participants can network, participate in a roundtable discussion, and listen to a presentation on topics related to heritage. Info: 604 853-0313 or


The German-Canadian Club, the Abbotsford-Mission Alpen Club, holds its annual May Dance (Mothers’ Day Banquet) on Saturday,  May 17 at 6 p.m. at the Community Arts Addition at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, 2329 Crescent Way.   Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and a buffet dinner is at 6 p.m. Live music with the Al Pichler Band.  Tickets are $25 for members and $28 for non-members.  Info: Gerda at 604-859-8057

A 1980s-themed fundraiser in support of the ALS Society of B.C. takes place Friday, May 23 from 5:30 to 11:30  p.m. at Finnegan’s Pub and Grill, 33780 King Rd. The Skills Connect for Immigrants Program holds free information sessions every Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Services, 2420 Montrose Ave. The program helps immigrants with things such as finding work in their field of expertise, professional job-search techniques and courses to improve qualifications. The Mood Disorders Association support group in Abbotsford meets the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Services (2420 Montrose Ave.) It is open to those who have mood disorders such as depression, manic depression, anxiety and panic attacks.
