Here are just a few of the community events happening around Abbotsford for the following week.


Central Abbotsford Community School Society hosts its annual free Winter Festival on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Middle School, 33231 Bevan Ave. Includes a free pancake breakfast , a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon artists, arts and crafts, student performers and more.


Abbotsford Grand Squares host square dancing every Monday, starting Jan. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.  at Abbotsford Social Activity Association (33889 Essendene Ave.). The first three sessions of the 10-week program are free. Info: David at 604-864-7435

Several local churches are holding special services for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (Jan. 20 to 26). They are: Saint Matthews Anglican Church, Jan. 20 at 12:15 p.m.; St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Jan. 21 at 12:15 p.m.; Trinity Memorial United, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.; Calvin Presbyterian, Jan. 23 at 12:15; and Highland Community Church, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.


The Skills Connect Program for immigrants holds a free information session on Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Services (2420 Montrose Ave.). The program helps participants with finding work in their field of expertise,  job-search techniques, courses and more. To register for the info session, call 604-866-0257


Fraser Valley Business Network holds networking events every Wednesday. On Jan. 22, the topic is Social Smart Start, taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Red 21 Playtime Restaurant, 30835 Peardonville Rd. Cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Info:
