School calendar to be discussed

2015-16 up for debate at a board of education meeting

The local school calendar for 2015-16 will be presented for debate at a board of education meeting on Feb. 24, held at 7 p.m. at the school board office (2790 Tims Street).

The proposed calendar is developed to meet the minimum hours of instruction necessary for students. The proposal includes two-week vacations in spring and winter and six non-instructional days.

Christmas holidays would be held from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1, with schools reopening on Jan. 4.

Spring break would held from March 14 to 24, followed immediately by Good Friday and the Easter holidays. Students would head back to class on Tuesday, March 29.

Parents and guardians who would like to provide feedback can attend the regular board meeting on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom at the school district office. Those who wish to address the board must contact Lois Hiebert, executive assistant in the superintendent’s office, at 604-852-2366 ext. 1230 before noon on Jan. 29.

They can also comment through an online survey by Feb. 13 on the district website at www.sd34.bc.ca/board/consultations/calendar.
