(From left) Mission realtors Tom Osterberg, Tom Potter, Cindy Byers and Sandi Stugis helped to collect 192 bags of warm clothing and blankets for the Abbotsford-Mission area as part of the recent Realtors Care Blanket Drive.

The 25th year of the Realtors Care Blanket Drive collected almost 1,400 bags of bedding and warm clothing for people in need.

The Fraser Valley drive was held Nov. 18 to 25, with more than 60 realtor volunteers collecting donations from 40 real estate office drop-off locations.

They then sorted and delivered all 1,376 donation bags – almost 200 of them in Abbotsford and Mission – to 26 Fraser Valley non-profit and charity groups, including five in Abbotsford: 5 and 2 Ministries, the Salvation Army Centre of Hope, Cyrus Centre, the Warm Zone, and Raven’s Moon Resource Society.

In Mission, the charities supported were Lydia Home (Union Gospel Mission), Hope Central Ministry (New Heights Church), Mission Community Services Society, Mission Friendship Centre Society and Mission Youth House.

“It’s gratifying to know that in our 25th year of the blanket drive, our member volunteers are as committed as ever to this cause, and our donors as generous as ever to their communities,” said Darin Germyn, president of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board.

“The blanket drive wouldn’t be possible without the strong partnerships that our members have formed with the charities that, year after year, demonstrate their dedication to people in need.”

The campaign is a partnership between the realtors of the Fraser Valley, Greater Vancouver, and Chilliwack and District real estate boards and their communities.

Together, enough donations were amassed to provide 40,000 Lower Mainland residents with blankets and warm clothing.

The Realtors Care Blanket Drive is the largest and longest running program of its kind in B.C. Since it began in 1995, it has helped more than 425,000 people,
