The Mennonite Central Committee’s recent Festival To-Go raised $640,000 to help families in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

With matching funds applied, the result is more than $2 million in programs for these families.

The annual Festival for World Relief is normally held at Tradex in Abbotsford, but it was adapted this year due to the pandemic.

This year’s MCC Festival To-Go included online food sales, quilt sales, an outdoor plant sale on Sept. 20 and the MCC Cyclathon, also on Sept. 20.

The funds raised go to families in the DRC, where millions of people have been displaced from their homes after decades of conflict.

The DRC programs are funded through MCC’s account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank, matched by Canadian government dollars, and implemented by MCC partners in DRC.

The project will provide agricultural training, food security, income generation and COVID-19 prevention to hundreds of families living in internally displaced peoples camps.
