Local Girl Guides host open house

Demonstrations and displays included during April 27 event

Girl Guides in Abbotsford hold an open house on Sunday, April 27 from  noon to 5 p.m. at MSA Museum, 2313 Ware St.

Monique Papineau, Abbotsford PR rep for Girl Guides of Canada, said the event is being held to show the public more about what the organization is all about.

“There’s often a misconception that we do nothing but crafts and sell cookies, and we’d like to show off some of the skills that we have and show the community why we sell cookies and what we spend the money on,” she said.

Demonstrations include the girls showing how to correctly load a backpack for trips and how to do a bed roll.

Information will be provided on places that locals have travelled to within Guiding and future planned trips.

Crafts, games and face painting will be offered for the kids.

Also included are displays of retired uniforms, photos of Guiding throughout the years, and the original Girl Guide Cookie to sample with some tea.

A campfire will complete the day, including a sing-along with silly action songs and classic tunes.

Former Guides and Guiders are encouraged to attend and share their stories and photos.
