Local cheerleaders place well in competition, perform on stage with Hedley

Abbotsford's ACE Allstars competed at Sea to Sky championships

Members of Abbotsford's ACE Allstars cheerleading team were whisked away Saturday from a standout performance at a high-profile competition via limousine so they could perform live on stage with Hedley.

“It was an amazing opportunity for us. The girls were beyond excited to perform with Hedley. To be able to showcase our talents as cheerleaders while sharing the stage with such talented musicians was an honour. I know the girls will remember that feeling forever,” said coach Willa Balfour.

The opportunity arose after one of the moms contacted Hedley asking for two tickets to be donated to help with a raffle/fundraiser for the Abbotsford club. A week later, coach Angela Leplante received a phone call from Hedley inviting the girls on stage.

Earlier in the day, the girls were competing at the eighth annual Sea to Sky International Cheerleading and Dance Championship event at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The ACE Allstars brought home first place in the junior division, second for both the mini and youth divisions, fourth for junior high school and fifth was earned by the senior team. The margin for the senior team's fifth place finish was only two points.

The championships are the biggest cheer event outside the United States and draws around 2,500 competitors annually.
