Fraser Valley Heritage Fair winners announce

Several Abbotsford students have been named as award winners at the Fraser Valley Heritage Fair, held May 11 and 12.

The event was hosted by The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford and Heritage Abbotsford (formerly MSA Museum Society) at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV).

A total of 110 students represented their schools and districts at the regional level. They presented their projects, based on an aspect of Canadian history, to other students, the public and judges.

Sukhveer Buttar of Dasmesh Punjabi School in Abbotsford was among three students who received Stellar Achievement Awards and will represent the Fraser Valley at the Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria from July 5 to 9.

Sukhveer was also recognized with an award for Outstanding People and Events.

Other Abbotsford students receiving awards were:

• Austin Stroomer, Prince Charles Elementary – Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC Award;

• Avnoor Sidhu, Dasmesh Punjabi School – Family History;

• Gracy Brazzese, Dormick Park Elementary – Art, Literature and Music, and People’s Choice Award for Best Project; and

• Jashan Sagga, Dormick Park – Symbols and Celebrations.
