Early registration ends March 1 for Relay for Life

Annual event takes place June 14 at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford.

The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for participants to join the 2014 Abbotsford/Mission Relay for Life, an annual fundraising walk. This year’s event is on June 14 at Rotary Stadium.

Registering before March 1 cuts the participation fee in half, from $20 to $10. Early birds also have the opportunity to enter a draw to win an iPad.

“Cancer is a disease that affects so many people. Most of us know someone who has had it,” said event co-chair Sukhi Brar in a press release. “Relay for Life is a great opportunity help make a difference in the fight against cancer and to support those in our community who have been impacted.”

The third year university student became involved with Relay for Life after a close friend was diagnosed.

“Recently, a close family friend was diagnosed with cancer,” said Brar. “It was a complete shock. My friend was so like me in many ways – young, active, making healthy choices. But she still got cancer.”

Teams of all ages come together for the Abbotsford/Mission Relay for Life. During the family-friendly, non-competitive event, participants celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against all cancers while taking turns walking laps around the track, and enjoying the entertainment and activities.
