The Crystal Gala Foundation in Abbotsford is establishing a new governance board and working committee after chair Gerri Charles and several committee members announced they will be stepping down as of Dec. 31 after 25 years of service.
A press release states that the new structure will allow Charles and the current board "to continue supporting the foundation in a new governance role, while remaining respected ambassadors for the organization."
"Additionally, it will provide continued support to sponsors and donors while preserving the foundation’s vision for years to come," the release added.
Current board member Chalie Howes will continue her involvement with the Crystal Gala Foundation and has agreed to lead the transition.
"Chalie brings a wealth of experience in event management, a fresh perspective and a deep commitment to the cause," the release states. "Chalie will spearhead a newly formed volunteer working committee, building momentum for the 2026 Gala and beyond."
Since 1999, members of the Crystal Gala Foundation have met around a kitchen table.
They raise funds to benefit local men and women fighting and living with breast cancer, with the support of sponsors, donors, individuals and businesses. They have no office, paid staff or overhead.
To date, they have raised more than $4.8 million – much of it through their annual gala – to fund equipment, technology and research projects that support early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
The 25th anniversary of the Crystal Gala takes place Oct. 25 at the Ag-Rec Centre. Tickets and more information are available at crystalgala.ca.
