The Crystal Gala Foundation recently donated the balance of funds that it had dedicated towards a new diagnostic mammography machine for Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The foundation, which organizes and hosts the annual Crystal Gala every October, had a goal in 2018 to purchase the $725,000 machine, which includes a stereotactic biopsy unit.

The first half of the funds – $362,000 – was donated in April 2018. The balance was raised at the last Crystal Gala and through other fundraising.

The last portion of that – just over $60,000 – was turned over to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation on June 6.

The unit has now been ordered and might be delivered by the end of this year.

The volunteer-driven Crystal Gala Foundation has raised $2.7 million since 1999.

The funds go towards purchasing equipment and technology for the detection and treatment of breast cancer.

The 2019 Crystal Gala takes place Oct. 26 at Tradex. This year’s theme is Disco. Visit crystalgala.ca for tickets and more information.
