The community of Mt. Lehman is raising money to purchase Christmas lights for its community hall and is encouraging local residents to light up their own homes and businesses.
The community received some funds through the City of Abbotsford Responsive Neighbourhood Grant, but is also appealing to the public to help.
Light Up the Countryside involves lighting up Mt. Lehman Hall to “act as a beacon that, despite our separation, we still exist as a cohesive community and can enjoy experiences while staying apart.”
Backdrops with nostalgic scenes will also be set up – in a COVID-safe manner – with the hope that people will bring props and take photos that can be posted on social media.
Mt. Lehman Library will also light up its premises, and Mt. Lehman Church will light up and decorate their front doors.
The lights for the hall will cost $2.50 per foot, and families are asked to donate what they can or to perhaps sponsor 10 feet of lights for $25.
The hall will be lit up from Dec. 1 to Jan. 6.
Donations can be dropped off at Mt. Lehman Credit Union or, to e-transfer, contact canadagoose.sara@outlook.com (778-241-8954) for instructions.
