The Blue Jay Book Bombers are the Fraser Valley champions in the Reading Link Challenge.

The team of six Grade 4/5 students from Blue Jay Elementary defeated eight other schools at the Fraser Valley Regional Library’s event last Wednesday (April 26) at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).

The teams were representing Abbotsford, Chilliwack/Yarrow, Delta, Fraser Cascade, Langley, Maple Ridge, Mission, Port Coquitlam and White Rock.

The students have been reading and studying six books since the fall and were then quizzed on them.

The Book Bombers qualified for the competition by first winning at the school level and then the district.

A total of 430 teams participated from 94 schools in Fraser Valley Regional Library communities.

The Book Bombers and Langley’s RC Garnett Galactic Starlinks now compete at the Grand Challenge event on May 3 at the Surrey KPU campus.

They will face teams from Coquitlam, North Vancouver City, Port Moody and Surrey.

The Book Bombers are made up of Nimrat Hare, Puneet Khaira, Danveer Ahuja, Paramdeep Brar, Keerat Sidhu and Govind Mann.

Their teacher/coaches are Evelyn Van Egmond and Tammy Tran.
