The Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF) has launched its 2019 Smart and Caring Community Grants Program.

Andrea Senft, chair of the community grants committee, said this year there is more than $90,000 available for projects that help children or youth at risk in Abbotsford.

Six volunteer members from the committee review all applications received and determine the successful applicants.

ACF board chair Lorna Hart said the foundation has distributed more than $500,000 in grants since 2013 to charities for programs that help vulnerable children and families.

“We are celebrating our 40th year of giving this year and these grants demonstrate ACF’s ongoing commitment to inspiring, impacting and investing in our community,” Hart said.

The granting guidelines and applications are now available on the ACF website at abbotsfordcf.org under the “grants” section. The deadline to apply for grants of up to $10,000 is March 29.

The ACF raises funds for their Smart and Caring Community Fund in a variety of ways, including a charity golf tournament held at Ledgeview Golf Course every September.

Registration has just opened up for the fourth annual Smart and Caring Golf Classic, which takes place Sept. 19.

Golfers are encouraged to sign up early as the event last year sold out almost three months ahead of time.

“We were so pleased to raise over $100,000 in 2018 from our golf event,” said Judy Redekop, ACF fund development chair.

All money raised at the tournament goes directly into the Smart and Caring Community Fund, which benefits Abbotsford charities in perpetuity.

For more information on how to register, visit the “events” page on the ACF website or contact executive director Wendy Neufeld at 604-850-3755.
