The annual Run for Water returns to Abbotsford this Sunday.

The annual Run for Water takes place in Abbotsford on Sunday, May 28 at Mill Lake Park to raise money for clean drinking water in Ethiopia.

The event includes a half marathon at 7:30 a.m., a 10 km run at 8:30 a.m. and a 5 km fun run at 10 a.m.

This year’s run raises funds for Letisha’s Well in memory of Letisha Reimer, 13, who was killed Nov. 1 in a random stabbing at Abbotsford Senior Secondary. Her 14-year-old friend (who can’t be named due to a publication ban) was seriously injured in the attack.

Letisha participated in the Run for Water for five years, and the event is honouring her memory by building clean water sources and primary schools in her name in Dengali and Freselam in East Africa.

Over the past 10 years, the Run for Water has transformed more than 40 communities throughout Ethiopia and raised more than $2.5 million.
