Alzheimer Society holds family caregiver series

Program starts Saturday, March 5 in Abbotsford

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. holds a free family caregiver series in Abbotsford, starting on Saturday, March 5.

The series continues on March 12 and 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd.

Participants will learn strategies to care for someone with dementia and to take care of their own health, to ensure they are prepared to continue to provide care for their family members.

"We provide practical techniques and strategies that caregivers can begin using immediately," says Sarah Stott-Eveneshen, support and education co-ordinator with the Alzheimer Society.

Topics to be covered include: understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, effective and creative ways of facilitating communication with a person with dementia, self-care, and planning for the future.
