An Abbotsford student has won an award from the 2277 Seaforth Highlanders Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps in Langley.

Master Cpl. Gerard Corr won the corps' Top Band Cadet Award for his work with, and dedication to, the pipe and drum band.

The award was presented during the corps' recent annual ceremonial review.

Corr has been playing the full bagpipes for a year and piped the Lament at the Vimy Ridge Memorial Parade in Cloverdale in April.

He was asked to pipe with the Seaforth Regiment's pipe band as his schedule permitted, and he recently did so at the 1867 corps in Delta.

He has been accepted to the intermediate band for bagpipes this summer for six weeks at the Rocky Mountain Cadet Summer Training Centre in Cochrane, Alta.

Corr is in Grade 9 at Abbotsford senior secondary, where he plays tuba in the concert band and also participates in the drumline.

The 2277 corps is the closest Scottish regiment to Abbotsford.

Other corps members who are from Abbotsford are Lance Cpl. Daniel Corr, Lance Cpl. Mason Sutcliffe and Master Cpl. Jamie Kliewer.
