The Abbotsford Hospice Society hosts a Memorial Butterfly Release on Saturday, July 23.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tanglebank Gardens, 29985 Downes Rd.
The public is invited to purchase a Painted Lady butterfly – one of many species that are native to the area – and release it in memory of a loved one.
All butterflies must be pre-ordered online at abbotsfordhospice.org. The cost is $20 for each butterfly or $50 for three.
Registration begins at 11 a.m., with the release at 11:30 a.m. If there is rain or cold on the day of the event, the release might be held until the optimal temperature is reached for the butterflies to wake, fly and survive.
