A presentation called Abbotsford’s Forgotten Soldiers takes place Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The session runs from 7 to 8 p.m. at Clearbrook Library (32320 George Ferguson Way) and is led by Peter Slade, a retired UFV professor and former vice-president of the Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Slade will discuss how he was able to comb local newspapers and military archives to help find local men who were involved in the Second World War.

Most of these men are buried near where they fell in battle or are memorialized on the Menin Gate or Vimy Ridge.

Slade will share their backgrounds and conclude his presentation with a sing-along to recordings of popular war-era songs such as It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, Pack up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag, and Mademoiselle from Armentieres.

Register for the event in person at the library or by calling 604-853-1753.

NOTE: This session was originally scheduled at Abbotsford Community Library, but the venue has been changed.
