Inter-faith harmony a focus at upcoming events
A series of events promoting inter-faith harmony are coming to Abbotsford during the next month.
The city is one of 65 globally celebrating World Interfaith Harmony Week, a United Nations initiative to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith. The awareness week is held during the first week of February.
In the lead-up, Abbotsford's Bridges of Faith committee, coordinated by Abbotsford Community Services, is organizing three tours of places of worship: Northview Community Church (Jan. 13), Gur Sikh Gurdwara (Jan. 19), and Sto:lo Nation Longhouse (date to be determined.)
During World Interfaith Harmony Week, there will be an interfaith dialogue and live music at the Ramada Plaza in Abbotsford (Jan. 31), a movie screening and discussion (Feb. 4), and a community breakfast (Feb. 8).
Bridges of Faith hopes to build a stronger awareness of common values, and a safe space for exploring the subject of faith.
All events are free. Registration is required for the learning tours and the interfaith dialogue. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 604-866-3212 for more information and to register.
The World Interfaith Harmony Week was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010. More information is available at: http://worldinterfaithharmonyweek.com
