WATERCOLOUR SOCIETY

The Fraser Valley Watercolour Society meets Thursday, Jan. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Abbotsford Senior Secondary, room 103. Local artist Laurie Thomasson will present a demonstration on “simplifying plein-air painting.”  The drop-in fee is $5. Info: Carol Portree at 604-850-9694 or MyArtClub.com

MENTAL HEALTH FORUM

Parents and youths are invited to a forum on mental health, stress management, grief and loss on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way) at 7 p.m.  The event, hosted by the school district and community partners, features guest speaker Cheri Lovre, director of the Crisis Management Institute. COMPUTER CLASSES

Registration for the next set of computer classes takes place Monday, Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Abbotsford Social Activity Association (2631 Cyril St.). Classes start the following day and are held every Tuesday and Thursday for three weeks. Beginners meet at 11 a.m., and intermediates at 2 p.m. Cost is $60.

LEARNING PLUS

The Abbotsford Learning Plus Society holds two classes next week from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (2499 McMillan Rd.).  “Myths and Realities of Family Life” is on Tuesday, Jan. 29. “Paddling the Kazan River” is on Thursday, Jan. 31. Hominum Fraser Valley meets Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. This is an informal discussion and support group to help gay, bisexual and questioning men with the challenges of being married, separated or single. For information and meeting location, call Art at 604-462-9813 or Don at 604-329-9760.

CHURCH TALK

St. Matthew Church (2010 Guilford Drive) hosts a free presentation called “Finding the Postmodern Balance” on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is presented by Michael Ingham, bishop on the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster. Everyone is welcome.

TABOR VOLUNTEERS

Tabor Home (31944 Sunrise Cres.) needs volunteers for things such as friendly visting, helping with bus outings and tea parties, mail delivery, music therapy, and arts and crafts. Those interested are asked to call Sandra at 604-859-8715 (local 119).
