Ducks Unlimited banquet
Ducks Unlimited raised close to $50,000 at its annual dinner and auction at the Ramada Plaza and Conference Centre on Saturday night.
The funds will be used for conservation and habitat enhancement at various wetlands across the Lower Mainland region, said organizer J.O. Trethewey. The Fraser River delta is the number one wintering area in Canada for migratory birds, and these lands are increasingly threatened by urban and industrial expansion.
In the annual event that celebrates both waterfowl and outdoor sports, some 260 people bid on various silent and live auction items, which included wildlife paintings and outdoor gear, up to guided sturgeon fishing trips.
One of the prize packages was a wine tour of the Okanagan that included a stay at a penthouse suite, along with a tour of several wineries.
“It’s always a great night,” said Trethewey of the banquet.
