For You, Alexis: Students create video for sick friend

What began as a discussion about how to encourage a fellow student, has exploded into a labour of love.

Students and staff at Abbotsford Christian Secondary have created a seven-minute music video to help cheer up Alexis Summers, a fellow student currently admitted to BC Children’s Hospital with a serious illness.

ACS principal Gerry Goertzen approached the school’s Student Action Leadership Team (SALT) with the idea of finding a way to encourage their classmate. It quickly went from “let’s design a big poster” to “let’s produce a music video from the entire school.”

After several hours of planning and one practice, the final shoot took place Friday. The result is a seven-minute music video which stars the entire school as the camera rolls through the hallways as costume-wearing, lip-syncing students and staff appear with signs and balloons all with the goal of encouraging  Alexis.

Student reps presented the video to Alexis at the hospital on Monday.

The video, called “For You, Alexis,” is now on YouTube. To view the video, visit http://youtu.be/bZ9tFDatLZE
