Abbotsford officers join Alexa's Team
Three Abbotsford Police officers have been honoured for their diligence in removing impaired drivers from local roads.
Sgt. Kelly Joiner, Const. Carl Baker and Const. Ken Wilson have been named by the BCAA Road Safety Foundation and ICBC as members of “Alexa’s Team.”
To be nominated for the team, officers must have removed at least 12 impaired drivers from the road in the previous calendar year through a criminal charge or an immediate roadside prohibition.
Alexa’s Team is named on behalf of Alexa Middelaer, who was killed by an impaired driver in 2008 at the age of four while she stood on the side of the road feeding a horse.
In the last four years, the team has grown from 26 members to 355 RCMP and municipal police officers across the province.
In that time, members processed almost 33,000 impaired driving charges or penalties.
