Robert Bateman students create recycled art
There is a dress made from trash bags and pieces of a cut-up exercise ball.
A wallet is made from a juice box container, and jewelry is fashioned from used computer parts.
It’s all part of a Grade 12 “sculpture in ceramics” class at Robert Bateman Secondary.
Teacher Ali Blair issued the challenge about three weeks ago.
Students had to create a sculpture that didn’t involve clay, but used recyclable materials.
“We wanted a new and exciting way to encourage the students to think about their environment and eco footprint,” she said.
A photo shoot with student photographers Kiaanna Whachell and Michelle Ellis followed.
The finished designs will be displayed during a lunch-time fashion show on Wednesday at the school, and later at a public arts display at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre from May 30 to June 3.
