Woman of the Year nominations now accepted
The Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Clubs of Abbotsford and Mission are accepting nominations for the Myrtle Evertt Woman of the Year Awards.
So far, no one has come forward with a nomination.
“There are many fabulous women in our communities. Please encourage one to set aside her modesty and let her name stand,” said Carrie Pratt, nominations chair.
“Men, you are always welcome to submit a nomination as well.”
The nomination process has been streamlined and some of the criteria changed to promote a greater number of nominations. The committee has relaxed the qualifications this year to allow BPW Club members to be nominated.
“A large number of women in Abbotsford and Mission that should be nominated for this award are members of the club, and so could never be included. We’ve removed that stipulation, hoping it will increase the number of application we receive,” said event chair Lori Masse.
Another change is the reduction in the number of years a previous nominee must wait to be re-nominated.
“One year there may be three or four deserving women, but only one from each community can receive the award. This meant truly incredible women, who we should be honouring, could not be nominated again for five years,” said Masse. “We’ve reduced this to three years, hoping the nominators will come forward and try again.”
The award was established in 1994 to recognize and honour local women for achievement in business or in a profession. The BPW Clubs of Abbotsford and Mission invite community groups, women’s organizations, businesses, and individuals to nominate someone they know who exemplifies an outstanding woman.
This event is also a fundraiser for bursaries for one graduating young woman from each community who is going on to post-secondary studies.
Two nominators with the approval of the nominee must complete the nomination package. For information contact Pratt, 604-819-5602, or email@example.com. Nomination forms are available at www.bpwabbotsford.ca.
The event will take place on May 11.
