Historic Downtown Abbotsford is among the areas that will be addressed during the third annual Business Walks event from Oct. 3 to 5.

The City of Abbotsford will host its third annual Business Walks event from Oct. 3 to 5.

The walks take place in Mt. Lehman, the McCallum industrial area, South Fraser Way, Historic Downtown, George Ferguson Way and east Abbotsford.

The program is co-ordinated by the City of Abbotsford’s economic development department with support from stakeholders in the community such as the University of the Fraser Valley and the Chamber of Commerce.

The purpose behind the business walks is to connect support agencies to businesses, share key challenges and opportunities with local decision makers, and identify the businesses requiring more comprehensive followup from the City of Abbotsford’s economic development department.

Volunteers – from elected officials to representatives from business organizations – will be hitting the streets to foster business growth in the community.

Mayor Henry Braun said the city learned much from the business community in the previous two walks and he looks forward to again meeting with individual business owners.

“We will be asking businesses about the challenges and issues they may be facing in today’s economy as well as what can be done to help their business thrive,” he said.

“These conversations will help us to stay connected with the community and learn what we can do to make it easier for them to do business successfully in Abbotsford.”

Businesses in the participating areas who wish to be involved are asked to email pneufeld@abbotsford.ca.
